Questions and answers
Is YontaCAD free?
Yes. There is no price, no paid tier and no locked feature. The code is open source under the LGPL.
Why donations?
Because the alternative is a company, and a company needs a paid tier. Donations keep the project alive without changing what the software is. A donation brings no benefit to the donor; see Donate.
Does it work offline?
Yes, fully. The only network call is the update check, and it runs only when you ask for it.
What happens to my data?
It stays on your computer. There are no accounts, no telemetry and no crash reports sent anywhere. Autosave and crash recovery keep their files in a local folder.
Which platforms?
Windows, macOS and Linux, with the same features on all three.
What is the file format?
.yonta, an open, documented, git-friendly format with a published JSON Schema. Import and export use standard formats: STEP and STL today, with IGES, DXF and 3MF on the roadmap.
When can I download it?
The project is in closed beta, by invitation. The public repository and the download come with v1.0; see the roadmap.
How can I contribute?
The repository becomes public with v1.0. Until then, beta testers are invited in small groups; write to info@yontacad.com if you want to be one.
What is the licence?
LGPL-2.1-or-later for the code. The name and the logo are trademarks of the project and are not covered by the licence.
Can I use it commercially?
Yes. The LGPL allows commercial use of the application and of the files you make with it, without any fee or notice.
